Shawn F. Greene is an associate in the firm’s Appeals and Advanced Motions Practice Group. His practice draws on a wealth and breath of judicial and government experience, including five federal and international clerkships across appellate, district, and bankruptcy courts, providing him with a rare, multidimensional perspective on the judicial process.
Before joining the firm, Shawn served as a judicial law clerk for Justice Steven A. Majiedt at the Constitutional Court of South Africa—the country’s highest court and the ultimate guardian of its post-apartheid Constitution. In recognition of his scholarly commitment to the judiciary, Shawn was selected as a semi-finalist for the prestigious U.S. Supreme Court Fellows Program.
Shawn has clerked at multiple levels of the federal judiciary, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit for Judge Carl E. Stewart; the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee for Judge John T. Fowlkes, Jr.; the U.S. District Court the District of New Jersey for Judge Zahid N. Quraishi; and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri for then Chief Judge Kathy A. Surratt-States.
In addition to his judicial clerkship experience, Shawn has held positions in key federal agencies. He advised the Chief Counsel within the Office of Information Technology at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and contributed to oversight and evaluation efforts at the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Inspector General. His private sector background includes advising the law department of a multinational tobacco corporation in Washington, D.C.
Shawn holds two Master of Laws degrees from Georgetown University Law Center and earned his Juris Doctor degree from The George Washington University Law School. During law school, he gained international experience as a summer associate in the Dubai office of a global law firm and served as a student attorney with the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, a legal services organization at Harvard Law School representing indigent clients in civil matters. Shawn interned at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Hearing and Appeals for Administrative Judge Vannessa L. Hall. He also served as a Senior Articles Editor for The George Washington Forum on Law, Economics, and Finance and competed nationally as an oralist and brief writer on the National Veterans Law Moot Court Team.
Shawn earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia.
